Abstract

28,561. Boyd, R. W. Dec. 29. Air-heating and ventilating fireplaces. - The firegrates of open fireplaces for ventilating schools, hospitals, &c. are lined with easily-removable iron plates B ; the bottom of the firegrate slopes up at the back. A damper E is arranged in front to control the admission of air below the grate. The air chamber surrounds the fireplace and opens into the room by gratings, or open outlets, in the frieze or in the sides of the grate ; disinfectants or vaporizers may be placed in the air chamber. The sides of the outer casing of the fireplace are ribbed as at a to provide extra heating-surface. The fireplace is pegged to the hearth. A register damper G in the chimney rests on lugs g, so that it cannot, as in the case of hinged dampers, become jammed by falling matter.
