Abstract

Fuels for Diesel and hot-bulb engines are obtained from Diesel oils which ignite badly by (1) adding any quantity not substantially exceeding 30 per cent by volume of the raffinate obtained by treating a Diesel oil with liquid sulphur dioxide, or (2) extracting only up to 75 per cent by volume of the constituents soluble in liquid sulphur dioxide. For example, 25 litres of raffinate from a gas oil is added to 100 litres of the gas oil, or the gas oil is extracted with liquid sulphur dioxide to remove only 15 instead of a possible 40 per cent of soluble constituents. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the use of Diesel oils incompletely extracted with liquid sulphur dioxide to any degree and specifies 10-30 per cent of raffinate as a suitable addition to untreated oil. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
