Abstract
502,802. Diesel fuel; purifying tar oils. STEINKOHLEN BERGWERK RHEINPREUSSEN. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25879. Convention date, Sept. 24, 1936. [Class 91] Coal or like tar oils are purified and Diesel fuels are formed by mixing the tar oils with paraffinic hydrocarbons of B.P. 180-350‹C., obtained in a benzine synthesis process, and treating at atmospheric temperature with acid, of at most 40 per cent concentration. Washing, drying, and bleaching may follow. For example, 35 kg. of coal tar oil B.P. 180-350‹ C. is mixed with 17 kg. of oil of the same B.P. obtained in the Fischer-Tropsch benzine, synthesis, shaken with 15 litres of 20 per cent sulphuric acid, and either centrifuged or allowed to settle, and the 3 layers separated. The raffinate is washed, dried, and treated with bleaching earth; the-acid is re-used, the sediment is worked up to obtain heating. oil or extract phenols.
