Abstract
381,608. Photo-electric cells. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Stilwell, G. R. ; 1023, West 5th Street, Plainfield, New Jersey, and Prescott, C. H. ; 552, Riverside Drive, New York, both in U.S.A.) July 10, 1931, No. 21493/32. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1930. Divided on 381,606. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i).] A photo-electric material, such as caesium, is deposited on an oxide-coated electrode in a photo-electric cell by first producing the material in the form of vapour in the cell by means of a chemical reaction initiated by heat, and directing the hot vapours to be condensed to a part of the wall of the enclosing vessel of the cell, and then baking the vessel to cause the material to deposit on the surface of the electrode. The invention may be carried out by mounting a broken ring of low resistance material below the light-sensitive electrode, the circuit of the ring being completed by a metal capsule or pill containing a mixture which is heated by induction currents to liberate the photo-electric material, a shield being provided to direct the freshly-liberated vapour away from the cathode on to the surface of the bulb. The detailed descriptionof the method of, and apparatus for, carrying out the invention is identical with that contained in Specification 381,606.
