Abstract

729,914. Treatment of electrolytically-tinned iron. EISEN-UND HUTTENWERKE AKT.- GES. June 4, 1951, No. 13243/51. Class 41. In a process for melting-on the tin layer of an electrolytically-tinned iron band or sheet by means of induction or resistance heating the band or sheet is heated in two separate successive stages by separate heating devices in such manner that in the first stage the band or sheet is preliminarily heated to a temperature below the melting point of tin, to remove residual gas or liquid occluded by or deposited on the band or sheet during the electrolysis, and to form an alloy layer between the band or sheet and the tin coating, and in the second stage the band or sheet is heated to a melting- on temperature above the melting point of tin. In the arrangement indicated diagrammatically, an electrolytically-tinned band 1 is conducted through a heating device 2 wherein it is heated by induction or resistance heating to a temperature below the melting point of tin, but above 120‹ C. The band is then passed through a second heating device 3 for a shorter period, in which the melting-on takes place.
