Abstract

783,162. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 3, 1954 [Feb. 19, 1953], No. 4639/53. Class 39(1). In the manufacture of a tube containing a photo-conductive target 7 and a cathode 2 liable to be damaged by such material during the evaporation of the target material the envelope is subjected to a differential baking process to confine the material to the target and the cathode is also heated to a sufficiently high temperature to prevent the material from being deposited on it. The material may be selenium or selenium and tellurium. Suitable temperatures are : target-10‹ to 95‹C., envelope 110‹ to 300‹C., cathode 400‹ to 500‹C. Additionally, a movable flap 9 may be interposed between the cathode and the target during the deposition process. According to the Provisional Specification, the movable flap may be relied on alone to protect the cathode, without differential heating ; and a protective medium for the cathode, as described in Specification 783,164 may be used additionally to the flap.
