Abstract
845,509. Coating by vapour deposition. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 1, 1956 [Nov. 26, 1955], No. 33944/55. Class 82(2) [Also in Group XI] An evaporator comprises a tube 1 for containing material 6 to be evaporated and an electrical heating element 5 disposed in said tube for heating and evaporating said material, said tube having its ends closed as by plugs 2, 3 and having an aperture 7 through which evaporated material can issue. Tube 1 may consist of ceramic or quartz, and elements may be a tantalum ribbon. The evaporator may be charged with antimony trisulphide and inserted through a side tube in the envelope of a television pick-up tube so as to deposit a photoconductive layer on the window of the tube, preferably by evaporation in xenon.
