Abstract
381,488. Printing-machines. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, London.-(Goss Printing Press Co. ; 1535, South Paulina Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) April 1, 1932, No. 9436. [Class 100 (ii).] Rotary printing-machines for printing newspapers &c. are fitted with a rotary tinting- couple which can be set so as to colour the whole of one or more of the pages of the newspaper. As applied to a multi-machine in which three superposed perfecting couples, A, B, C, print on webs of four-page width led from rolls 13, and in which the printed webs are cut, folded, and associated in known manner, a tinting- couple is employed comprising a plain metal cylinder 24 and an impression cylinder 25 which is mounted in eccentric bearings 43 so that the tinting-couple can be tripped if desired. The cylinder 24 is fitted with one or two semicylindrical shells 31, Fig. 4, secured in position by keys 32 according as it is desired to tint one or two pages of each newspaper. The shells 31 are provided with ink or colour from a duct 27 by means of rollers 30, 26, 28, 29, similar to the rollers of an inking-apparatus, and the coloured web is dried by means of a blower 40. The tinting-couple is mounted in frames 33, 34, Fig. 3, which are adjustable axially on supports 35, and the cylinder 24 is axially adjustable on a shaft 37 fitted with a keyway 38.
