Abstract
381,053. Strapping packing-cases &c. QUICK, T., 100, Broad Walk, Knowle, and QUICK, S., 481, Speedwell Road, Kingswood, both in Bristol. Jan. 25, 1932, No. 2219. [Class 45.] The sealing sleeve 22, Fig. 1, in which the overlapping ends e, f of the strap are inserted before tensioning is lightly pinched during the tensioning operation whereby it serves as a guide for the strap. After tensioning, the sleeve is secured by means of the dies 23, Fig. 2, which lightly pinched the sleeve during the tensioning and are now operated to form H- shaped incisions in the sleeve and subsequently to penetrate the sleeve and overlapping strap ends as shown. The parallel bars b, c of the H-incisions are transverse to the axis of the strap. The dies are carried by a block 24, Fig. 6, which is slidably mounted in a guide 25 and is depressed against a spring 28 by means of a cam lever 26. This lever is formed, in addition to the cam surface which effects the full depression of the block 24, with two flats x, x<1>; when the lever is in the inoperative position shown in full lines the flat x coacts with the block 24 and the latter is fully raised ; when the lever is partially, rotated to the dotted line position the flat x<1> coacts with and partially depresses the block 24 so that the dies effect the light pinching action on the sleeve. To prevent rotation of the block 24 the latter is formed with a flat 27 which coacts with a flat vertical shoulder 29 on the foot 32 in which the anvil 31 is inserted. The sealing-mechanism is carried rigidly by a tensioning head 12, Fig. 5, which, in order to tension the strap, is caused to travel along a rack 13 and approach the other tensioning head 11 to which the rack is secured. Movement of the tensioning head 12 is effected by means of a lever 15 pivoted thereto and to a pawl 17 engaging the rack. The tensioning heads are provided with spring- actuated cam grippers 19.
