[Class 45] [Also in Group XV] A method of securing the overlapping ends of a strap or band passed around a package comprises in one continuous operation holding the tensioned strap without forming a joint, and then severing the strap from the supply or loose end before forming an interlocking or other joint between the ends. The die 3 of the apparatus described in the parent Specification is replaced by a plunger jaw 3a depending from a cross-head block 3b urged upwardly by a spring 3c.
