Apparatus for clamping and compressing packages 1 on a table 2 whilst the packages are tied with adhesive tapes, wire, string or the like comprises a frame 3 and a holding band 6 passing round rollers 5 attached to the frame 3 by springs 4. The package 1 is compressed by means of a foot pedal 8, which is joined to the band 6, being depressed so that the springs 4 are extended and the band 6 is applied tightly about the package. The compressed package may be placed in an envelope (not shown).
