Abstract

379,619. Wire resistances. MAXIM SOC. ANON. FABRIQUE D'APPAREILS THERMO-ELECTRIQUES, Aarau, Switzerland. Feb. 5, 1932, No. 3521. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1931. [Class 37.] A heating bar comprises a helically-wound wire resistance 3, Fig. 5, embedded in an insulating mass 2 and enclosed in a sheet metal shell 1 which is closed by a metal strip 4 having its edges folded and bent over by pressing to form a seam with the edges of the U-shaped channel portion of the shell so that a peripheral tensile stress is produced in the shell, thus avoiding any cavities. The cover strip may be shaped so as to give the complete bar a circular cross section. The shell may have a thickness of from 0À3 to 1À0 mm. The insulating mass may be inserted either moist or dry, for example in the form of powder. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification, Fig. 10 (Cancelled) in which the shell 8 is rectangular and contains two zig-zag wire resistances 10 connected at one end, so that both terminals are at one end of the bar. A similar shell may contain a single zig-zag resistance. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
