378,409. Screw propellers. BROOKS, G. R., 9705, Loretta Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. May 4, 1931, No. 13088. Convention date, May 5, 1930. [Class 114.] The blades 18 are adjustable about their axes by the gearing 32, 29, 28, 27, 26, which is brought into operation by the manually controlled non-rotatable sleeve 37. This bears worm grooves 38, 39 which, when either is brought into engagement with the pinion 32 by a longitudinal movement of the sleeve, rotates the pinion 32 about its own axis since it is rotating about the axis of the shaft 10. The sleeve 37 is moved manually by the pilot through a linkwork. The pitch is indicated on an instrument which is operated from an eccentric 80 on the blade, through the push rods 81 and rods 94, 91. In a modification, the helices 38, 39 are replaced by spirals formed on flanges on the sleeve 37.
