Abstract
Phosphorus, together with a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, is obtained by reacting a mineral phosphate, alone or admixed with silica-containing substances, with a hydrocarbon-containing gas at a temperature between 1000 DEG and 1500 DEG C. Phosphoretted hydrogen may also be obtained. The phosphorus may be oxidized or reacted with water or carbon dioxide to form phosphorus pentoxide. The mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen may be used as a fuel or employed in alcohol or hydrocarbon synthesis. According to an example natural gas containing methane is reacted with a powdered or compressed mixture of phosphorite and silica at 1100-1200 DEG C.ALSO:A mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, together with phosphorus, is obtained by reacting a mineral phosphate, alone or admixed with silica or silica-containing substances, with a hydrocarbon-containing gas at a temperature between 1000 and 1500 DEG C. The mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen may be employed in alcohol or hydrocarbon synthesis. According to an example natural gas-containing methane is reacted with a powdered or compressed mixture of phosphorite and silica at 1100-1200 DEG C.
