Abstract

In the catalytic conversion of carbon monoxide contained in town gas into methane, into methane and carbon dioxide, or into hydrogen and carbon dioxide, colloidal silica (silica gel) is used as carrier for catalysts consisting of nickel, iron, chromium or other metals, particularly metals of the VIII group of the periodic system, as also of rare earth metals, alone or mixed together or mixed with other substances, particularly oxides of the said metals.
