[Class 100 (ii).] In a late news printing-cylinder in which a locking device is provided for the fudge-box retaining members, a separate locking device is provided for each retaining member. A single operating member is also provided for moving the locking device out of locking position and the retaining device out of retaining position. In one form, Fig. 1, the retaining member 9 having lugs 8 to engage bevels 4 on the fudgebox 2 is urged to retaining position by a spring 10 surrounding a rod 11 which is slidably mounted in the member 9 and in a head 12 on the cylinder 1 and is provided with an operating handle 20. A head 13 on the rod, engaged by a spring 14, limits the sliding movement of the rod in the member 9. The member 9 is locked by the engagement of a spring plunger 17 carried therein with a recess 19 in the cylinder and the plunger is provided with a conical upper end 16, which, when the rod 11 is withdrawn, enters a groove 15 in the rod, thereby unlocking the member 9 to allow it to be moved out of retaining position by a further movement of the rod 11. In a modification, Fig. 2, the locking plunger is formed in two parts 21, 22. The part 21 is mounted in a recess in the cylinder and locks the member 9 by engaging a recess therein. In the locked position of the member 9, the upper conical portion 23 of the part 22 engages the groove 15 in the rod 11. Upon withdrawing the rod the portion 23 depresses the portion 21 till its upper end is flush with the cylinder, thereby unlocking the member 9.
