Abstract
378,171. Electric furnaces. BORNAND, E., 112, Route de Florissant, and SCHLAEPFER, H. A., 13, Rue Verdaine, both in Geneva, Switzerland. July 13, 1931, No. 20045. Convention date, July 17, 1930. [Class 39 (iii).] Means for electrically heating the contents of a casting ladle comprises a resistor conductive at high temperatures making direct contact with the metal in the ladle, and having conducting electrodes embedded therein. The resistor may be in the form of a plunger 2, Fig. 1, with embedded carbon rods 3, or may form part at least of the wall of the ladle, Fig. 2, carbon rods 5 being embedded in the wall.
