Abstract
279,818. George, H. Oct., 27, 1926, [Convention date]. Inductance and resistance furnaces.- The charge, or the vessel containing it, is heated by means of molten tin. In Fig. 1 the charge 2 is contained by a crucible 1 dipping into a bath of tin 4. The tin is melted by currents induced by a winding 7 on a core 6. In Fig. 2 the charge is contained by a crucible 8 having hollow walls containing the tin and surrounded by a primary winding 11. At the end of an operation the tin may be withdrawn from one furnace and led to another. Electrode and resistance furnaces.-According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91. (3) (a) the heat transmitting medium may be heated by means of electrodes in contact with it or forming one or more arcs above it. The furnace may be used for melting silica. The tin may be replaced by gallium. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
