[Class 72.] The metal in the upper part of a mould is heated by a high-frequency current passing through a conductor which is lowered into the mould. The conductor may take the form of a coiled tube 5 traversed by cooling fluid and arranged in a body 2 which may have a recess 10, Fig. 3, to receive deoxidizers or other materials to act on the molten metal.
