Abstract

378,101. Attaching adhesive strips. HUNT, S. J., 2, Beverley Road, Mitcham, Surrey. May 11, 1931, No. 13859. [Class 140.] A portable device for attaching adhesive strips of paper &c. to parcels &c. consists of a wedge-shaped casing 10 having a cylindrical end 12 provided with a hinged cover 28, and having mounted therein, by means of a bolt 22, a roll 24 of the strip to be attached, a brake spring 46 being carried by the cover. Mounted in the tapering portion is a container 14 adapted to hold an adhesive or moistening fluid. An aperture 38 in front of the container is closed by a felt &c. pad 40 which extends from the base of the container through the aperture and serves to moisten the gummed strip or apply adhesive thereto. Mounted on the inclined face of the container is a leaf spring 42 over which the strip 26 passes before passing through a slot 20 in the base 16 of the device. In operation, the gummed end of the strip is pressed on to the article by the curved end 18 of the base 16 and the device is moved away from the point of attachment, the tension of the strip serving to depress the spring 42 until the strip touches the end of the pad 40. A sharpened end 52 of the casing serves to sever the strip. Inspection of the strip is facilitated by an opening 58.
