Abstract

377,715. Filters. CHALMERS, R. A. and TECALEMIT, Ltd., Mitre House, Scrubbs Lane, Willesden, London. April 24, 1931, No. 22391/30. [Class 46.] In apparatus comprising a casing 5 and a hollow filter element 1 with an inlet or outlet passage 18 extending through the end of the casing and communicating with the interior of the element, a byepass port in the wall of the passage is controlled by a valve 17 which opens when the filter is clogged or when the oil or other liquid supplied is in a viscous condition. The element may comprise one or more layers of metal gauze and one or more lavers of felt and may be corrugated as shown in Fig. 2. The felt is wrapped over the ends of the gauze, and the element is closed at the ends by plates 7, 12. The plate 12 is held by a nipple 13 against the inner end 14 of the passage 18 and the plate 7 pushed upward by a spring 8 which bears against the lower cover 6 of the casing.
