Abstract

349,145. Filters. ELEY, T. W., Bergholt, Ardleigh Green Road, Hornehurch, Essex. March 1, 1930, No. 6803. [Class 46.] A filter or strainer for liquids and gases is formed of a coil of wire, machined smooth on one side in order to provide sharp edges for the gaps between the turns of the coil. As shown in the Figure, a ring casting 1 is provided with depending walls 2, 3 the space between which is closed by a ring 4, attached to the casting by screws 5. A wire of circular cross section is coiled around the wall 3, which is formed with perforations 9, and the outer surface of the coil is machined smooth to give gaps of the size desired between the turns. Liquid filters inwardly and the filtrate is discharged through an outlet 7 in a lug 8. One or both of the walls 2, 3 may be conical. The coil may be arranged on the inside of its support, the inner face being machined, and the fluid is then passed outwardly.
