Nov. 26, 1931, No. 32792. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1930. [Class 47 (ii).] In a fireprotection system wherein inert gas is supplied to the unoccupied spaces of oil tanks 31 .. 34 by way of a pipe 35, the gas is produced by an oil burner 6 arranged at one end of a combustion chamber consisting of a metal shell 1 with insulating and refractory linings 2, 3. Air for the burner is drawn in between the shell 1 and a spaced casing 8. The combustion products are directed by a baffle 9 into the tubes 11 of a cooler 10, the latter being supplied with. cooling water by pipes 16, 17. The cooled gases pass by an outlet 20 to a wash filter 25 of known form, and an exhauster 26 then passes them through a check valve 41 into the pipe 35. The gases may be run to atmosphere by a waste pipe 40 with valve 55. The tanks 31 . . 34 are provided with filling openings 36 . . 39 and with non-return vent valves 46 .. 49. The gas is supplied to the tanks under a small positive pressure, and is preferably tested for its degree of inertness before admission to the tanks.
