Abstract

In obtaining solid diammonium phosphate by neutralizing phosphoric acid with ammonia in two steps, neutralization to the mono-stage or a little higher, for example, to a pH value of about 5, is so effected that the heat of the reaction is utilized for partial evaporation of the water, a temperature of over 100 DEG C. being obtained. Impurities precipitated, chiefly as phosphates, are removed by filtration or centrifuging, and the monoammonium phosphate solution is further neutralized in a closed vessel, while being stirred and cooled say to 70-80 DEG C. When a pH value of 8 is reached, corresponding to completion of the reaction to the diammonium stage, the solution is sprayed into a current of warm air, with which may be admixed a small quantity of ammonia. The temperature should not rise above 70 DEG C. The dried salt should be quickly cooled to room temperature. The ammonia should be recovered from the drying air by absorption in acid, for example, the phosphoric acid to be converted.
