Abstract
300,965. Pond, J. A. Nov. 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Calcium phosphate.-A phosphatic fertilizer comprising a substantial amount of mono-calcium phosphate, some di-calcium phosphate, and a relatively small quantity of unattacked tricalcium phosphate is obtained by intimately mixing with ground tri-calcium phosphate the requisite quantity of sulphuric acid of suitable strength, say 10-20 per cent less than is required for complete formation of the monophosphate of an acid having a specific gravity of 1.36-1.55, and then subjecting the mixture in finely divided form to heat treatment at a temperature up to 280‹ F. with removal of the evolved gases or vapours until the mass is dried. The sulphuric acid used may be preheated, say to 100-150‹ F, the heating of the mixture be effected in a rotatable substantially air-tight container fitted with internal ribs, and the removal of gases be effected by suction or by means of heated air introduced under pressure or by both means. The process may be carried out continuously or intermittently.
