Abstract

375,273. Valve-amplifying circuits. KRAMOLIN, L. L. DE, 35, Landshuterstrasse, Berlin. Dec. 18, 1930, No. 38243. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 40 (v).] An automatic gain control system comprises two valves having different operating character. istics so that for weak signals one valve has little effect, whereas for strong signals it opposes the amplifying action of the other valve to give practically constant output. Fig. 1 shows a pair of push-pull valves 2, 3, one of which operates on the straight part of its characteristic while the other has a curved characteristic and operates at a point to the left of the lower bend. A fairly constant output is thus applied to the rectifying valve 5. In Fig. 4 a negatively biased rectifier 8 is con. nected in parallel with the amplifier 7. For weak signals valve 8 is almost inactive, while with large inputs it draws a large anode current, thus increasing the voltage drop across resistance W and thereby decreasing the amplification of valve 7 by reducing the applied anode voltage. A manual volume control may also be provided in the stage following the automatic control stage.
