Abstract

373,773. Wind-motors. SANKEY, A. R. M., 9, Pyrland Road, Richmond, Surrey. May 19, 1931, No. 14712. [Class 110 (iii).] A wind-wheel A<1> of the transverse flow type is surrounded by a member B carrying pivoted blades B<2> on two opposite segments. On the .windward side the blades lie against stops B<3> and act as directing vanes, whilst on the leeward side they are thrown over to close the segment. The member B is looked in head-to-wind position by a latch E controlled by a wind vane F. The latch engages teeth C<2> on a wheel C which is influenced by wind vanes D, D<1>, the vanes D<1> being pivoted. When the direction of the wind changes the vane F releases. the latch E until the member B has taken up its new head-on position,. when it is again locked. In a modification, Fig. 2, the latch G<1> is actuated by a pivoted vane H to which the wind is directed by vanes J. Further modifications are described. When the wind-wheel is mounted horizontally, the device acts to keep the wheel in the wind.
