Abstract

682,627. Wind motors. ANDREAU, J. E. July 10, 1950 [July 13, 1949], No. 17242/50. Class 110(iii) A wind motor having a blade the inside of which forms a passage for an air stream flowing from the blade root toward the tip thereof, is characterised in that the tip part of this blade is cut in bevelled fashion so as to form an outlet in a plane parallel to the axis of rotation of said blade and to give said blade tip a negative rake, the cross section of this tip part of the blade consisting of truncated portions of the blade basic aerofoil profiles. The wind motor has hollow blades 1 secured to a hub 2 which is mounted on a hollow mast 3. The blades and the mast are in communication and the mast is connected at its lower end to the outlet side of an air turbine 4 adapted to drive a dynamo 5, air drawn through the turbine 4 being expelled from the tips 0 of the blades 1 by centrifugal action. The tip 0 of each blade is bevelled, preferably at 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the blade, and the blade is fitted interiorly with deflector vanes 6 the tip leading edge of each blade being curved at 1b and the trailing edge adjacent the orifice 0 being shaped as at 1c. The truncated profiles of the blade at various sections of the length of the bevelled tip are shown by the dotted profiles p<SP>0</SP>-p<SP>3</SP>.
