Abstract

802,871. Making turbines. HENSCHEL & SOHN G.m.b.H. Sept. 12, 1955 [Sept. 10, 1954], No. 26014/55. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] In a bladed rotor for a steam or gas turbine, each blade 1 is formed with a straight root portion 2 of rectangular cross-section, and the rotor 3 is formed with projections 4 of corresponding cross-section, a blade root portion 2 being butt-welded on each projection 4. In Figs. 1 and 2 each blade is formed with a platform 6 between the aerofoil and root portions, the platforms of adjacent blades abutting to form the inner wall of the working fluid passage. The spaces 7 between adjacent blade roots 2 and projections 4 are closed by a ring 8 welded at 9 to the rotor ; rings such as 8 may be provided at both sides. Alternatively each blade platform 6 may be formed either at its upstream edge or at both its upstream and downstream edges with a plate-like projection at right-angles to the rotor axis, which projections close the spaces between the blade roots 2 and projections 4 on the rotor. In a third embodiment a continuous ring is formed integrally with the rotor on the upstream sides of the projections 4, the ring extending to the blade platforms 6 and closing the spaces between the blade roots 2 and projections 4; such rings may be provided both upstream and downstream of the projections 4. The axes of the projections 4 on the rotor may be disposed so that they are inclined to the axis of the rotor whereby they act as fan blades and cause cooling air to flow over the blade roots and rotor.
