Abstract

373,552. Jute - softening machines. FRASER, G., FRASER, N., and FRASER, J., Westburn Foundry. Arbroath, Angus. Nov. 27, 1931, No. 32897. [Class 120 (i).] In a jute-softening machine of the type including a gable frame carrying a cross-shaft 1 fitted with worms 3, Fig. 1, and side shafts 4 having co-operating worm wheels 5 and provided also with bevel pinions driving corresponding bevel pinions on the fluted crushing rollers, a sliding coupling 6, 8 is arranged between each side shaft 4 and its worm wheel 5 so that endwise movement of the side shaft has no effect on the worm gearing 3, 5. The coupling comprises an internally toothed ring 6, Fig. 2, secured to the shaft 4 and a spur pinion 8 on the shaft 10 of the worm wheel 5.
