Abstract

The process of the parent Specification, comprising the production of dry potassium nitrate by treating potassium chloride with gaseous nitric acid or nitrous gases at a temperature above the dew point of the vapours, is modified in the following respects. The potassium chloride used may be wholly or partly replaced by sodium chloride, or a crude potassium salt such as sylvinite which contains sodium chloride be employed; and in all cases reaction may be accelerated by the addition of small quantities of the nitrates or chlorides of magnesium, aluminium, or iron.
