Addition to 329,200, [Class 1 (ii), Inorganic compounds, other than &c.] [Classes 1 (ii), 1 (iii), and 90.] In the production of nitrates from chlorides and nitric acid or the like and the treatment of the gases containing nitrosyl chloride also obtained by thermal decomposition followed by a rapid cooling in the presence of oxygen or air as claimed in claim 9 of the parent Specification, the nitrogen dioxide formed is separated from the chlorine by dissolving out with nitric acid, water, or waste salt solutions. The nitric acid so obtained can again be used for the conversion of more potassium chloride into potassium nitrate. The gases and the liquid employed should be brought together in counterflow.
