Abstract

370,552. Testing brakes. LOGETTE, A. I. and DAINTON, E. H., 186, Walmer Road, London. Feb. 6, 1931, No. 3898. [Class 103 (i).] A device for operating vehicle brakes at known pressure to facilitate the testing and adjustment of the brakes comprises a fluidpressure jack provided with a pressure gauge, which can be adjustably mounted on the vehicle for engagement with the brake pedal or lever. The device comprises a cylinder 2 containing the ram 1 to which is attached by a ball-and-socket joint 8 a pressure plate 7 adapted to bear against the brake pedal. The cylinder 2 communicates with a pressure gauge 20 and with a reservoir or cylinder 10 in which works the operating piston 14 actuated by a screw 18 and handle 19. The device may be attached to the steering column A of a motor vehicle by a screw-clamp 26, 30 operated by a handle 32. The cylinder 2 is carried by a rod 34 that can be adjusted in a split sleeve 27 and held by a bolt 33. An orifice 10a serves as an air vent and a, safetv vent 2a permits the escape of pressure fluid when the ram has reached the limit of its stroke.
