872,098. Locking-rods. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GESELLSCHAFT. June 24, 1959 [June 26, 1958], No. 21632/59. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XXXIV] An hydraulic hand brake system for vehicles comprises a cylinder 10 with a movable piston 11, and piston rod 9 attached thereto, the rod 9 having a ratchet thereon, the brake rigging for the brake blocks 2 and 3 being connected to a fulcrum 6 on one side and to the end of the piston rod 9 on the other side, the ratchet being in contact with a catch 12, the supply of liquid under pressure to the brake cylinder being effected by a hand wheel 38 which through bevel gears 36 and screwed spindle 35 causes downward movement of a piston 34 to pressurize the liquid thereunder which has been supplied from reservoir 33. When the piston 11 has reached the limit of its travel the rod 9 is locked by the catch 12. The brake is released by rotating the hand wheel 38 in the reverse direction so that the piston 34 is raised causing liquid above it to be forced through pipe 39 to the space below piston 16 thus relieving the ratchet catch from its engagement with the teeth in the piston rod 9.
