July 16, 1931, No. 20431. [Class 94 (ii).] In a machine for the manufacture of paper bags and envelopes comprising a pair of rollers acting on a blank by suction a fold being made in the bag &c. blank during its passage through the rollers, sleeves d are provided on the suction roller for partially covering the suction apertures, the edges of the sleeves scoring parallel folds during the forward movement of the blank. The sleeves may be longitudinally adjustable on a thread e and fastened by nuts g. To form the parallel folds the edges m of the sleeves coact with portions i on each side of the central area k of the counter-roller these elements being also adjustable longitudinally of a thread b. In forming a bag from the blank of Fig. 2 for outer glueing, the blank is passed between the roller pair by suction so that the bottom fold p is formed the sleeves scoring the folds q during the passage. Gumming discs h apply glue to the flaps s which are subsequently folded over by guide rails on to the rear side r of the bag and pressed by following rollers. A slightly modified procedure for inner glueing is described, as also is a blank of different form, Fig. 3 (not shown), for use in forming a bag by inner or outer glueing methods. When the product is to be a bag of standard size the sleeves d are formed as fixed shoulders or bosses. Specification 372,166 is referred to.
