Abstract

435,943. Making paper &c. bags &c. MARSHALL, J. W., 367, Corn Exchange Buildings, Fennel Street, Manchester. June 22, 1934, No. 18500. [Class 94 (ii)] In apparatus for the manufacture of paper &c. bags &c., a slotted former plate 26, is provided about which the paper &c. 20 is longitudinally displaceable permitting contact between the inner walls of the paper &c. tube along one or more lines of adhesive to enable the said inner walls to be secured together to form two or more compartments in the paper &c. tube. The web of paper &c. 20 from supply, is gummed at 34, 35 by adjustable discs 30, 31, and, after passing over a guide roll 24, is formed into a tube by wheels 25 and a former plate 26. This plate is slotted at 27 which slot may extend to the edge 38. As the paper &c. tube is fed forwardly by rolls 43 the gum-streak 34 effects the longitudinal seam while the streak 35 invites the inner faces of the tube to form two compartments. The bag tubes are then severed by the breaker bar 40 and the bags completed by turning over the leading or rear edge. Transparent or opaque paper or linen may be used.
