Abstract

576,945. Paper bags. MARSHALL, J. W. Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20486. [Class 94 (ii)] A bag of paper, or the like, having a " rosebottom," has longitudinal creases 1 extending from the points of the bottom to form outturned gussets at the sides of the bag. The " rose-bottom" bag has no overlapping pasted seam in its bottom. The bag may have longitudinal cuts 4 at its open end, to form closing flaps for the bag, and a transverse crease 3 may also be provided. Fig. 3 diagrammatically shows a machine for making " rose-bottom " bags adapted to form the longitudinal and lateral creases 2, 3, and the cuts 4. Paper 22, or the like, is drawn from a roll 5, passes between rollers 23, 24, which form creases 3, is led through grooved rollers 8, where it receives creases 2, and passes adhesive-applying mechanism 9-12, to a former 13 where the paper is shaped into a tube. It then passes to a normal slot cutter 14 for the bottoms of the bags. The cuts 4 are formed by cutters on the upper one of a pair of co-acting rollers 15. 17 shows the usual mechanism for forming and pasting down the bottoms of the bags before they pass to a delivery 18. Fig. 8 shows the bag before the final pasting operation. Specification 576,968 is referred to.
