Abstract

405,854. Envelopes. KLINGER, F., 18, Bellevue, Hamburg, Germany. May 20, 1933, No. 14659. [Class 146 (ii).] In a process for the production of envelopes without side-folds from a web, comprising the operations of severing, shaping, applying adhesive to the side edges, folding, and crimping along the side edges, the severing operation is performed last of all so that completed envelopes are obtained. A sheet b, Fig. 1, twice the depth of the finished envelope is cut from a web a, several times the width of the envelope, and the sheet is gummed at d<1>, d<2>, d<3>, d<4>, folded over, and crimped along lines f<1>, f<2>, f<3>, f<4> preferably some distance from the edges of the finished envelopes, the flaps are gummed at g<1>, g2, g<3>, and the envelopes are finally separated at h<1>, h<2> between the lines of crimping. The envelopes may be formed without flaps, or may be formed as shown in Fig. 8, the web a being gummed at d, folded longitudinally, and crimped at f, the flaps c cut and gummed, and the finished envelopes severed between the two lines of crimping f. The process may also be applied to the manufacture of paper bags, pouches, sacks, &c., and materials such as paper, artificial fabrics, cellulose derivatives, or metal foil may be used.
