Abstract

428,625. Making paper bags &c. FRENCH, G. W., Winterstoke Road, Ashton Gate, Bristol. Nov. 21, 1933, No. 32488. [Class 94 (ii)] In shearing or cutting mechanism of the beater type for cutting lengths of tubular sheet material 1 for paper bag &c. making, a device is provided comprising an abutment member which may be a cam 11 or a crank or bar, which is adapted to be brought automatically into contact with the tubular sheet material to displace or bend it to take the slack therefrom, during its transit from the former plate 2 across the shearing zone, so that there will be no slack or a diminished slack as the shearing operation is about to take place. The tubular material, fed by rolls 3, 3a and taken up by rolls 5, is periodically displaced by a cam roller 11, of substantially D-form, to take slack from the same immediately before the beater 7 effects severance of the tubular blank on the edges 6, 8. The flat surface 12 of the roller 11 is substantially horizontal as the leading edge of the tube is fed forwardly.
