368,889. Road vehicle opening tops. LOVADINA, M., 21, Via A. Fusinato, Padua, Italy. Dec. 31, 1930, No. 39360. [Class 108 (i).] Open-to-closed road vehicles are provided at the rear with a housing from which a rigid frame adapted to form the rear upper structure of the vehicle may be raised and the rigid frame may carry the hood of flexible material rolled up or folded, while the body of the vehicle is provided with fixed side frames. Fig. 2 shows the rigid frame 8 elevated from the housing 7 and provided with a rolled-up hood 2 adapted to be extended over the fixed superstructure 35, 59. Fig. 6 shows a form of hydraulic elevating mechanism in which the ram 40 of the cylinder operates the arms 37, 38 to raise the bottom member 17 of the rigid frame. If desired, the rigid frame can be carried directly by two hydraulic rams or it can be elevated by pneumatic or mechanical means. Fig. 13 shows an arrangement of hood which is adapted for long coaches and is separate from the rear rigid frame and comprises a roller hood 74 adapted to be drawn transversely from a roller 73, the front canopy 74<1>, Fig. 15, being drawn longitudinally from a roller 79. The hoop-sticks may have extensible spring arrangements so that they adapt themselves to the varying width of the body.
