Abstract

Viscera of fish other than plagiostomi, which contain protein-splitting and fat-splitting ferments, particularly the digestive organs or preparations obtained therefrom, are used for fermentation processes, namely soaking, liming, and drenching leather, removing dressings in the textile industry, dissolving protein- and fat-containing impurities in laundering and treating fibres, for example, degumming silk and in the preparatory treatment of raw cotton before bleaching as well as for imparting lustre to flax and other vegetable fibres. Putrefaction-preventing agents may be added as well as admixtures promoting or increasing the actions of the ferments or suitable alkalies, such as ammonia, or suitable salts, such as ammonium salts. The raw material may be dried and fat removed therefrom for storage. Specifications 246,779 and 258,299, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to.
