Abstract

368,472. Doctors for paper-making and like machines. NORTON & CO., Ltd., SIR J. F., Adelphi Iron Works, Salford, Manchester.-(Rice, Barton, & Fales, Inc. ; Worcester, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) Jan. 28, 1931, No. 2754. [Class 96.] A doctor apparatus comprises a fixed support, a composite blade secured thereon comprising a scraper blade 12, Figs. 1 and 2, and one or more spring blades 15, 16 pressed directly thereon and extending the full width of the scraper blade, i.e. in the direction of the width of the paper-making or like machine, with means for adjusting this pressure at different points along the blade. The flexible scraper blade 12, which is pressed against the roll 14 by the spring blades 15, 16 and which has a front edge 13 ground or bevelled to fit the roll, is received in a slot 11 of the support 10, the blades 15, 16 being also bevelled as at 19 to keep out dust, fibre, &c. and being received in slots 110, recesses 17 enabling the blades 15, 16 to be fitted on countersunk clamping screws 18 provided with elongated washers 20. The washers 20 are bevelled to facilitate cleaning and are initially set parallel with the axis of the roll, the screws 18 being loosened, the washers are swung round the required amount towards the roll where necessary and the screws tightened. The front of the spring blade 15 may be slotted between each screw 18 to localize the effect of turning the washers.
