Abstract

368,038. Microscopes. GREEN, H. and WILLIAMS, V. I. N., Norfolk Works, Sheffield. Feb. 14, 1931, No. 4747. [Class 97 (i).] A microscope for use with hardness testing machines c o m - prises means for illuminating the surface under examination through the barrel of the microscope, and a hood &c., permanently or removably attached to the eyepiece, provided with a screen to receive an enlarged image of the surface. The hardness testing machine a with the attached microscope c is rotatably mounted on a pillar b so that the microscope can be brought into position over the worktable d after operation of the machine. Illumination is effected by a lamp s in a tube j, the light being directed downwardly along the barrel by a reflector t. A hood m attached to the eyepiece carries a reflector n by which an image is directed on to a ground glass screen p bearing suitably graduated scales. The image may be photographed by substituting a photographic plate for the screen p. Specification 280,292, [Class 106 (ii), Dynamometers &c.], is referred to.
