Abstract

367,268. Thermal switches. BULPITT & SONS, Ltd. and BULPITT, W. H., Swansea Works, Camden Street, Birming- ham. June 5, 1931, No. 16417. [Class 38 (v).] A safety switch device for electrically-heated utensils is a modification of that described in Specification 329,406 and comprises a pin 7 of square section screwed into an appliance 1 and a catch member 10 with a depending lug at its larger end which enters a recess in the pin 7 and is held by means of fusible metal. A thin metal sleeve 8 fits on the pin 7 and a compression spring is mounted between the two members. The sleeve 8 is held in position by the engagement of a catch 13 on the member 10 with a projection 23 on one side of a slot in the sleeve 8. When the vessel 1 is overheated, the fusible metal melts allowing the member 10 to rotate under the action of the compression spring and the sloping sides 15, 26 of the slot. The sleeve is thus pushed off the pin 7 and forces the socket 4 off the plugs 3 to break the circuit. At the end of its movement, the surface 27 of the sleeve engages the catch 13 to move the member 10 to its original position, and the sleeve may be pushed on again when the fusible metal has solidified.
