367,220. Change-speed gearing. MAYBACH-MOTORENBAU GES., Friedrichshafen-on-Bodensee, Wurtemberg, Germany. March 31, 1931, No. 9695. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1930. [Class 80 (ii).] Relates to change-speed gearing having at least three pairs of gears 10, 10<1> and 11, 11<1> and 12, 12<1> in constant mesh with change clutches 14 &c. adapted for quick throwing over and having inclines on the ends of the coupling jaws to prevent engagement until there is a change in relative speed, as described in Specification 298,186, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.]. Upon the final or exit shaft 16 a gear 27 can be moved to two positions from the neutral position shown, namely, to a clutch position with members 12<11>, 271 engaged, and to engagement with a pinion 28 on a countershaft 20. Reversed driving may be effected by moving idlers 40. In the arrangement shown, the countershaft is in two parts 19, 20 adapted to be connected by a clutch 21 which is operated in conjunction with a clutch 17 on an intermediate section 15 of the main shaft with a quick throw over as described in Specification 347,570. Since the double clutch 14 slides on the first-motion shaft 13, any of the gears 10, 11, 12 may be caused to drive the countershaft. An arrangement with an undivided countershaft is described.
