Abstract

366,677. Magnetic compasses. GILLIE, J. W., The New Quay, North Shields. Jan. 2, 1931, No. 144. [Class 97 (ii).] In place of the usual helmet, the binnacle E is provided with an open rim A raised and shaped on one side to shade the compass glass. In the form shown the raised part carries a bracket B in which swivels a casing C for an electric lamp adapted to throw light on any portion of the card or lubber line. The casing C has a transparent base of tinted glass and to provide a cooling current of air is perforated with holes covered to prevent escape of light.
