Abstract

572,075. Binnacle lamps. HUGHES & SON, Ltd., H., PERKINS, D. H., BAGOT, R. and HUGHES, A. J. March 2, 1944, No. 3926. [Class 75 (iv)] A mariner's compass card is illuminated by an electric lamp arranged in a ventilated casing d fitted with an inclined glass filter n absorbing rays likely to reduce the dilatation of the pupils of the observer's eyes. The casing d may consist of a tube j rotatably and slidably mounted in a sleeve i having a partition f secred by a ring c to the lamp-holder b. The partition f is formed with ventilation holes g screened by an annular flange h at the back of the sleeve. Alternatively the tube may be secured to the sleeve i by a bayonet fastening. The filter is preferably of "signal orange" colour so as to allow the observation of a red signal light in the azimuth mirror. The casing d may be arranged horizontally below the compass or inserted vertically in one of the lamp houses at the side of the binnacle cowling.
