[Class 120 (ii).] An eddy current brake for the bobbin or bobbin spindles of spinning, doubling, or winding machines having an adjustabe air gap between the poles of the electromagnet within which gap a brake disc !is freely rotatable is characterized in that the brake disc is provided with a flange projecting between the poles and preferably perpendicular to the disc, one pole of the electromagnet being adjustable with regard to the surface of the brake flange, for example by a screw on the magnet shoulder. To the spindle 1 of the spinning or like machine is attached a brake disc 2 having a downwardly projecting flange 3 which passes between the poles 5, 8 of an electromagnet. One pole 5 is fixed on the shoulder 6 of the magnet within the brake drum while the other pole 8 fixed on the shoulder 7 comprises a threaded member which by means of the wings 9 can be rotated to displace it relatively to the brake drum 3. A scale 10 attached to the stem of the screw 8 enables the amount of the braking effect to be recorded and an extension 11 on the scale 10 is arranged to strike against a stop 12 on the shoulder 7 when the air gap has been reduced to the minimum. Thus by regulating the current in the coil 13 the braking effect of all the brakes on the machine may be adjusted or by means of the screw 8 each one may be adjusted singly.
