Abstract

364,267. Cutting. HUNTER, C. E., 33, Marryat Road, Wimbledon, London. Nov. 21, 1930, No. 35127. [Class 31 (i).] A pressure-applying roller for feeding flat articles such as paper strips or sheet metal is mounted yieldingly upon a fixed supporting spindle. As shown, the roller 1 is mounted upon a row of balls and the inner race ring 3 is carried by a spring 10 on a spindle 6. The latter is reduced in diameter at 5 in the neighbourhood of the roller and sleeves 11 may be used to hold the spring in position. The spring 10 may be replaced by a curved leaf spring secured at one end to the shaft or by a number of radially disposed helical springs arranged between the race 3 and shaft 6. In these modifications the width of the groove 5 is equal to the width of the ring 3 so that the sides of the groove prevent side movement of the roller. The ball-bearing support for the roller 1 may be replaced by a sliding friction bearing.
