924,677. Feeding sheets. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. May 15, 1959 [May 21, 1958], No. 41566/62. Divided out of 924,675. Class 100 (1). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXX] In sheet-feeding apparatus, means for maintaining alignment of an endless belt continuously advancing over a plurality of supporting rolls comprises a guide roll 49 supported on a fixed shaft 50 by a central self-aligning bearing assembly 51. The roll also rotates about a control bearing assembly 52, the inner race 53 of which, in the form of a hollow stub shaft, is capable of limited movement with respect to the shaft. The position of the inner race 53, and therefore of the axis of the roll 49, is altered in accordance with changes in the position of the edge of the belt 10 by a mechanical linkage, and in a direction to cause the belt to return to its previous path. The linkage comprises a rod 54, a fork 55 and a member 56. A spring 62 maintains the fork in light contact with the edge of the belt. In the copying machine of Fig. 1, rolls 15 and 19 are controlled for aligning a carrier belt 10 and a guide belt 16, respectively. Specification 924,676 also is referred to.
